Method

Per-person daily categories โ€” food, local transport, activities, and the misc buffer โ€” are multiplied by the number of days and the number of travellers. Lodging is kept as a shared per-room cost, so it scales with days but not with party size. Flights are added as a per-person one-off. In road-trip mode, fuel is estimated as round-trip distance รท efficiency ร— fuel price, and tolls are added as a single trip total.

Why presets are indicative

Destination presets carry indicative mid-range daily averages with the month they were last reviewed, not live quotes. Accommodation, transport, and activity prices swing widely by season, availability, and how you travel, so the presets exist to seed a sensible starting estimate that you then adjust to your own plan.

FAQ

How does the budget planner work?

You enter the number of days and travellers, plus your daily rates for lodging, food, local transport, and activities. The planner multiplies the per-person rates by days and people, keeps lodging as a shared per-room cost, adds one-off flights, and optionally adds road-trip fuel and tolls.

Is lodging counted per person or per room?

Lodging is treated as a shared, per-room cost โ€” one figure per day for the whole party. Food, local transport, activities, and the misc buffer are per person per day. Flights are a per-person one-off.

How is the road-trip fuel cost calculated?

Fuel cost equals round-trip distance divided by fuel efficiency, multiplied by the fuel price per unit. Keep the units consistent: miles with miles-per-gallon and a per-gallon price, or kilometres with km-per-litre and a per-litre price.

Can I save or share my estimate?

Yes. Use Download CSV to save the full breakdown as a spreadsheet, or Copy shareable link to get a URL that re-opens the planner with all your inputs filled in.

Are the preset prices accurate?

No โ€” they are indicative averages, not live quotes, and are clearly dated. They give you a sensible starting point so you are not staring at a blank form. Always edit them to match your dates, comfort level, and current prices.
